A Promise Undone

The poem below was written in response to a Jessica Galbreth work of art. I cannot publish her drawing here, but I can publish my reaction.

Broken in the light of the moon,

Vow’s holy bliss lost to the voice of night.

As it shimmers away in the wind

A broken heart trails in pieces.

The deed done, the heart left to heal

The silence in the eyes speak of rest,

For there is another to come,

Another chance for love to be born

Purity is lost on this night,

For the goddess of the moon

Married at first light
